As people look back on 2022, the top songs released are always a topic of discussion. This year we saw a single from Kate Bush released three decades ago top the charts. Many of the most popular songs of the year were mostly popularized by social media, especially TikTok. New artists from all backgrounds also rose to popularity. Now, here are some of the biggest charting songs that were released in 2022.
“Snow on the Beach” By Taylor Swift, ft Lana Del Rey
Taylor Swift released her new album, “Midnights” this year on October 21, 2022. Although it was only released two months ago, Taylor has been absolutely dominating the charts. “Snow on the Beach” featuring Lana Del Ray, peaked on Billboard Hot 100 at number 4, marking Lana Del Ray’s first top-five hit. The song is currently placed at 83rd on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Until I Found You” By Stephen Sanchez
A song this year that gained massive popularity through TikTok was “Until I Found You” by Stephen Sanchez. Through a series of the singer’s Tiktoks, which brought out his singing and writing abilities, he quickly gained attention. Released on October 28th, 2022, his single was a huge success, ranking on charts for 22 weeks. Currently, “Until I Found You” still ranks on Billboard Hot 100 at 54.
“As It Was” By Harry Styles
From the album “Harry’s House” released on April 1st, 2022, “As It Was” was featured as Harry Styles’s lead single. His lead single was given many awards such as the grammy for record of the year and song of the year. ”As It Was” was insanely successful, remaining eight weeks on No.1 Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S charts.
“Bad Habit” By Steve Lacy
“Bad Habit” by American musician Steve Lacy was released from his second studio album on June 29, 2022. The artist gained attention when his song “Dark Red” came to popularity on TikTok. Similar to “Dark Red,” another song from the musician, “Bad Habit,” gained a huge amount of popularity on the platform with over 600,000 videos using his song. Currently, “Bad Habit” is placed 8th on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Romantic Homicide” By d4vd
“Romantic Homicide” was an unexpected hit from a 17 year old named Huston David Burke, or more commonly known as d4vd. “Romantic Homicide,” created only in his bedroom closet peaking number 33 on Billboard charts, became a huge hit on social media platforms worldwide.
“About that Time” By Lizzo
Following her 2019 hit, “Truth Hurts”, Lizzo’s new song “About That Time” reached number 1 on billboard charts. Similarly to the most popular song of 2022, “About That Time” was blown up by TikTok and other social media platforms. For about 10 weeks the song reached number 1 on Billboard charts,succeeding Harry Styles’ “As It Was.”
“Anti-Hero” By Taylor Swift
Being the lead single on Taylor Swift’s new album “Midnights,” “Anti-Hero” immediately blasted to number 1 on Billboard 200. Her new album gained tremendous popularity, making her songs take 9 places on the Billboard Hot 100. Taylor now holds 2nd place in her songs charting to the Top 10 of Billboard Hot 100.

Social media played a significant role in transforming the music industry, causing new artists of all ages and backgrounds to rise in popularity almost overnight.
