Leonia’s Holiday Festivities

The town of Leonia’s holiday spirit has brought the community together through tradition and events that filled the cold November and December with warmth. From the high school’s festive candy cane grams to the annual Holiday Market, the Turkey Trot, and the town Christmas tree lighting, students and residents have been celebrating in ways that highlight the spirit of the season.

At Leonia High School, the Ribbon Club’s candy cane grams are helping  spread holiday cheer while raising money to support women who are fighting breast cancer. One club member explained that the club’s goal was, “To spread Christmas cheer while advocating for women who have breast cancer and support them through this time.” Even students who are not buying grams said that they “feel the holiday spirit and gained insight on what Ribbon Club is and the work that they do,” showing how the fundraiser builds both awareness and holiday cheer.

In November, the Holiday Market carried festive energy into the school gym, where vendors, students, residents, and some faculty gathered to support small businesses and enjoy seasonal activities. LHS counselor, Ms. Wong, said that she took on the role of preparing the event because fundraising was needed and because she and her colleagues “wanted to spread some holiday cheer.” Her favorite part was “working with my colleagues and spreading the good holiday vibes while supporting small businesses.” She added that the event gives “student council kids and the town something to look forward to,” and groves how “the school and community come together and support each other.”

The Turkey Trot and Leonia’s annual Christmas tree lighting added even more holiday moments for families across Leonia to come together and participate in.

Together, these traditions created a season that was centered around community, generosity, and holiday joy. With fundraisers, markets, and town gatherings, Leonia celebrated the holidays in ways that brought people closer to one another and reminded everyone why these traditions matter.
