LHS Spring Break Trips
As the days grow longer and spring officially sets in, students return from break with stories as diverse as the destinations they visited. Whether it was soaking up the culture abroad or sleeping after practice everyday, this year’s spring break proved memorable for many.
For sophomore Vivian Luft, this spring break was anything but ordinary. She traveled with the school group to Japan, soaking up the country’s vibrant culture and breathtaking scenery. One of the most memorable stops on the trip was a visit to Nara Park, where she had a once in a lifetime experience feeding the sacred deer. “Going to the deer park and feeding them cookies,” Vivian recalled with excitement. “The deer are considered so sacred and if you bow to them, they will bow back and then you feed them a cookie.” From sightseeing to going to different food places, Vivian described the experience as “unlike any other,” adding that “this may have been the best trip I’ve ever been on.” The only thing she wishes she could change from this unforgettable trip was having more time to shop at Shabooya, a popular shopping district known for trendy souvenirs.
Senior Emily Ryu also spent her spring break abroad, traveling through the cities of Italy on the school trip. The trip offered a nice contrast to her usual breaks spent at home, and she embraced every moment of it. “It was a really good change of pace,” Emily said. “Usually I just stay home. Italy was so beautiful and I had a really great time with my friends.” Although it was hard to pick just one highlight, when asked, Emily said “riding a gondola through Venice’s winding canals and attending a gelato making class” where she made strawberry and lemon gelato.
Not every break requires a passport to be meaningful. Sophomore Naomi Markowski spent her week balancing athletics and relaxation, taking time for softball and flag football practice. “Spending time with my teammates” she said was the best part of her break. Compared to last year’s break where she didn’t have much to do, this one kept her moving and engaged. “Last spring break I did absolutely nothing and was so bored,” she admitted. “This year I enjoyed it.” Despite the busy schedule, Naomi made sure to squeeze in moments of rest. “Napping after practice” she said was her favorite way to relax and if she could go back and do anything differently, “I would sleep more.”
From the beautiful scenery in Japan to the delicious pizza in Italy, and even our home turf, spring break gave students a variety of ways to relax, recharge, and create unforgettable memories. Whether bowing to deer, making gelato in Italy, or bonding over practice drills, each student was able to find their own adventure.
