Aloha, Spring Fling
As springtime begins, students are excited for another one of Leonia’s dances. The annual Spring Fling dance is a special night and a chance for everyone to come together, have fun, and celebrate the last dance of the year. With great music, cool decorations, and plenty of time to hang out with friends, the Spring Fling is all about making memories and enjoying the excitement of it being the year is soon coming to an end. Whether you love dancing, dressing up, or just being with friends, this event is one that students looks forward to.
Senior Sophie Dahiya loved the theme, saying, “The theme was the same as last year, but I think it’s fun having a Hawaiian/Tropical theme. I love that they gave everyone a lei.”
Danny Hussein 25’, who has been part of student council for all four years, explained why the theme didn’t change this year. “We’re broke as a class, so I understand keeping it the same. I suggested a ’90s block party or disco, but we didn’t have enough money or time to make it happen,” he said.
Even with a simple theme, students had a great time dancing and enjoying the night. Sophie shared, “I love the dance because it’s a fun way to spend time with my friends and see everyone dressed up. I don’t usually get a chance to dance with my friends, so it felt special.”
For seniors like Danny, the night was emotional. “It feels bittersweet. It was my last dance, but we ended it on a great note. Now, I’m really excited for prom,” he said.
Some students had ideas on how to make the event even better. Danny thought turning the lights on early took away from the mood. “The dance was great, but turning the lights on at 9:30 was dumb. People would leave if the music stopped anyway, but keeping the lights down would’ve let people take pictures with the same vibe,” he explained.
Both Sophie and Danny shared advice for future dances. Sophie suggested planning ahead for outfits. “Shop for a dress a few weeks in advance so you can figure out if you like it and how to accessorize. I usually wait until the last minute, and that’s not a good idea!”
Danny added, “Picking out what to wear and meeting up with friends beforehand is always fun. I think people should stop coming late, or we should start earlier so more people show up on time.”
For seniors, the night was a reminder of how quickly high school is ending. Sophie said, “Attending my last dance made me realize how close graduation is. I want to cherish these moments with my best friends before we all go our separate ways.”
This year’s Hawaiian/Tropical dance will be remembered as a fun and meaningful night, a perfect way to celebrate the end of another school year.
