Spring Sports Wrap Up
As spring sports come to a close at Leonia High School, athletes from various teams are reflecting on the highlights and challenges of their seasons. With tennis matches, volleyball games, and baseball games against rival schools wrapping up, it’s the perfect time to highlight how these teams grew, competed, and created lasting memories.
Our school’s spring athletes battled not only their opponents but also the changing spring schedule, tough matchups, and moments of pressure that tested their dedication. Still, across every team, one theme stands out: progress—both as people and as players. Tommaso Scordo, a player on the boys’ varsity tennis team, shared how his team evolved as the season progressed. “Since most of our team came back from last year, we already had chemistry going in,” Tommaso said. “But we still pushed each other to improve every day.” By remaining dedicated and pushing each other to stay focused and improve, their efforts culminated in a county championship, tying with Fair Lawn for 1st place. “Winning the county championship was huge because it showed that all our effort and commitment paid off. I am very grateful for my teammates and the opportunity to be surrounded by them every practice and match. We’re like a family.”
For the boys’ volleyball team, communication and consistency were key challenges. Junior Yehsung Jun, one of the team’s players, reflected on the growth that came with staying focused. “Volleyball is a game of timing and trust,” he explained. “We had moments where it felt like things weren’t going our way, but we kept pushing.” He went on to say, “I think the biggest thing we learned was how to trust each other more and play as one unit instead of six people.”
