Leonia DECA, Taking Care of Business

deca1In late February, Leonia High School’s DECA Club visited Cherry Hill, NJ to compete in the New Jersey state conference. Competitors from our school participated in business-related events according to their own personal interests and skills. At the conference, Mrs. Gianfredi was awarded on stage for her participation and success in the organization. Also, over twenty DECA members placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in their events, thereby guaranteeing spots for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC). All seniors including Tony Vargas, Simraun Kaur, David Johanesson, Sofia Haikin, Jonnie Kay, Moustafa Abdelaziz, Frank Chung, and Tyler Moldoff all attended the state conference and qualified for ICDC, which will take place on April 24 through April 29 in Orlando, Florida. Since so many students will be attending the event, the Leonia DECA Club can only subsidize the costs to a certain point. With the generosity of the Leonia Board of Education each qualifying student will receive $125 for the trip contingent on if they present their projects at the BOE meeting on April 14. The DECA club will also try to aid the costs of trip by having a food sale after school on March 19. Aside from the costs, the club will spend a week having a great time at Disney and of course competing against students from around the country and the world! This event will also give the students a great learning experience and give opportunities to form networks with established business professionals.
