Music festivals are great experiences for young adults. They provide an in depth look at the communities built upon different genres of music. Music festivals are a great place to make friends and to feel inspired by an onslaught of sights and sounds. Here are some popular music festivals in the New York area that you shouldn’t miss! Remember to bring your sunscreen.

 

Rock ‘N Derby

rock-n-derby-83Love metal and rock music? Then the Rock ‘N Derby music festival is the place for you! This three day experience is the adventure of a lifetime. New age metal bands like 5FDP and Megadeth are on this year’s lineup. Each day is filled
with amazing bands and artists, along with a $10,000 demolition derby! Mini vans, short buses, and V-8 cars will be included. On the opposite end of the concert area, you can go to the area where there be a minimum of twenty wrestling matches a day. This year they are providing over 20 different food vendors. This experience is great for a group of friends who want to camp out. With camping and parking grounds surrounding the perimeter, you can be sure to experience every second of it.

 

GOV. Ball

Filled with electronic and alternative beats, this year’s Governor’s Ball will top all others before it. The lineup features popular and upcoming artists such as Of Monsters and Men as well as Galantis. Tickets sell out fast, so remember to get your weekend passes now! This is a rain or shine event, so bring your raincoats and sunscreen. Band merchandise will be sold on the grounds. Sadly, you can’t camp out but this festival is one of the best New York experiences out there.

 

Mountain Jam

This music festival is one of a kind. Mountain Jam welcomes you to join their drumming circles and workshops to get the full experience. This festival sponsors healing music that is sure to touch your heart. Popular Indie artists and bands such as Elijah Wolf will be center stage on one of the four days this music festival is in town. Camping is highly recommended in order to get the full experience. This year they have recruited the best vendors in the New York area, filled with all kinds of meals and dessert options. This is a very kid friendly environment with fun activities and entertainment. Children are able to participate in yoga and have their own drum circles to help unlock their creativity!

 

Electric Zoo

electric zooHeld over Labor Day weekend, the Electric Zoo festival this is considered one of the best EDM events New York has to offer. With various stages set up around the grounds, you will never miss a minute of the action. There are seven stages set up, each with their own lineups and themes. One is strictly vinyls and another is dedicated to live beats and original mashups. Camping is not allowed, but this three day experience is the best late summer activity before going back into school. Nearby hotels offer pools and affordable rooms. This is one of the most scenic music festivals in the New York area. Filled with waterfront bike paths, you’ll be sure to have a perfect picture to share on Instagram.
